Acokanthera spp. refers to a group of closely related evergreen shrubs or small trees in the Apocynaceae family, native to tropical and southern Africa. These species—including Acokanthera oblongifolia, Acokanthera oppositifolia, and others—are known for their attractive, glossy foliage and clusters of sweet-scented white to pale pink flowers. Despite their ornamental appeal, all species in this genus are highly toxic due to the presence of cardiac glycosides. Traditionally, their extracts were used for arrow poison in hunting. Today, they are primarily used for ornamental hedges and screens in tropical gardens. Supplied in a 1-inch net pot — plant directly with the net pot into the ground or a larger planter.
